Negatives/Slides to CD

SLIDE SCANNING SERVICES:

Slide scans are $3 each when done manually (it's a slow process) and $1 each if we use our bulk-feeding accessory and you pre-sort your slides.

PRE-SORTING:

  • Remove slides from slide pockets, carousels, slide boxes, or magazine boxes—you can leave them in but they will be scanned at the manual rate.
  • Remove buckled slides or extra thick slides—these must be scanned manually.
  • Stack/bundle your slides into groups of 20~25 that have been sorted as follows:
    • SEPARATE TYPES:
      • separate Kodachrome slides from the others – our scanner requires a different setting for these denser slides.
      • separate 126 (square) slides as they are a different shape from 35mm slides.
      • sort slide into groups of the same thickness - i.e. don't mix thin cardboard mounts with thicker plastic.
    • ORIENTATION: Rotate slides so that all are orientated the same way (i.e. as film was in camera).  Slides can only be scanned in a landscape format -  any facing upright will lose the top and bottom..
    • EMULSION:  the emulsion (non-shiny) side of each slide facing the same direction to avoid photos being back to front.

All slides are scanned at 1600x2400 pixels. The files can be used to make 6x4” prints, create DVD slideshows and turn into PhotoBooks & Collage Posters.

If you want to enlarge the photos then please request high resolution scans—these take longer so cost a little more.

All files will be saved as jpeg files unless HiRes scans are requested, in which case they will be scanned at a higher resolution and saved in the tiff  format

All files will be saved to CD if total size of job is <700MB or DVD if larger than 700MB (this is a data DVD not a MOVIE-DVD)

Images from photo scans retain about the same colour as the original. Faded images are still faded, good pictures are still good.  We do offer colour correction and restorations as optional services. Images from slides will have minor colour correction applied after scanning. However it is difficult to correct over-exposed & under-exposed slides as well as those  with a bad colour cast or mildew damage.

Black edges may occur on slides, due to variations in slide mounts.

NEGATIVES:

  • For 35mm and smaller we prefer you have a print made first then we'll scan the print.
  • We can scan large format negatives and glass plates - $8 ea
